Marilyn Monroe also know as Norma Jeane Baker was an American actress, model, and singer born on 1 June 1926 in Los Angeles, California. She an American model turned actress, the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s. More than half a century later, she continues to be a major popular culture icon. Monroe appeared in a number of popular movies but is best remembered as an international sex symbol.
Marilyn Monroe worked at the Radio Plane Company in Van Nuys, California, but she was soon discovered by photographers. She enrolled in a three-month modeling course, and in 1946, aware of her considerable charm and the potential it had for a career in films, Marilyn Monroe obtained a divorce from Dougherty who was against her working. She then headed for Hollywood, where Ben Lyon, head of casting at Twentieth Century Fox, arranged a screen test but she did not appear in any films, and her contract was not renewed. Ben Lyon was the one who suggested a new name for the young actress Marilyn Monroe.
In the spring of 1948 Columbia Pictures hired her for a small part Monroe starred in three movies that were released in 1953 and emerged as a major sex symbol and one of Hollywoods most bankable performers. Marilyn Monroe was found dead in her Los Angeles bungalow on August 5, 1962, an empty bottle of sleeping pills by her side. During her career, Monroes films grossed more than $200 million. Monroe died of a drug overdose on August 5, 1962, at only 36 years old.
